Children’s Home

Our vision for New Life Children’s Home is to develop a ministry that “trains up children in the way that they should go” (Proverbs 22:6) and reinforces, establishes and builds families. The foundation is crucial to every child and family. Therefore, we are building the following foundational principles into the daily function of the children’s home.

Training up children in the way that they should go

-Proverbs 22:6

Training up children in the way that they should go

-Proverbs 22:6

We believe it absolutely essential that the proper Christian institutions be in place so that the Godly seed planted each day will later produce the “peaceable fruit of righteousness.” The following are the foundational principles we are building:

PILLARS OF NEW LIFE
The pillars of our ministry consist of five foundational principles:

leader-accordBuilding a strong staff of faithful, prayerful, committed Hondurans and Christians from other countries, to lead the different areas of New Life Ministries and build our part of the Kingdom of God in Honduras. This staff includes directors, teachers, interns, childcare workers, cooks, guards, cleaning personnel and short-term teams.

K-12 SCHOOL
We have established a primary school with K-12th grade. Our Christian educational system with bilingual curriculum and teachers give the children the best possible opportunity to change their world.

PRE-VOCATIONAL TRAINING
We are developing shop areas and mini courses to introduce the trades of carpentry, mechanics, welding, cosmetology, etc., so the children can have the basic ability to choose a vocation, as desired. We are training the girls in life skills of cooking, homemaking, arts and crafts and other things that will serve them in the future.

We, at New Life Children’s Home, desire that the children have a well-rounded knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, His Son (John 17:3) that leads them to make the all-important decision to make Jesus the Lord of their lives and grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. This foundational need must be “caught” and not just taught.IMG_2880

The teaching occurs through the daily devotionals that they receive in school and at other times from the staff, from their involvement in the local churches, and from the teams that come. We desire and pray that the Holy Spirit would touch their lives through these contacts with the Word of God and the presence of the Lord. We intend to give them as many opportunities as possible to “catch” the breath of the Spirit in their lives, taking them to anointed events and meetings.

  • Taking the children to medical brigades and feeding brigades to pray for the sick and needy.
  • Taking the children to youth group and church meetings, as well as retreats.

RESPONSIBILITY AND VALUES TRAINING
Along with academic and biblical training we are establishing a system that will train the children to be responsible, hardworking, honest, obedient, respectful, kind, gentle, joyful, etc.

Learning to Value and Care for their things and the things of others.

Through requiring the children to purchase with merits or money depending on their circumstances some of the things that they use daily: shoes, snacks, other clothing items, etc. (we are helping them take care of and value things that they are provided for them).

  • The kids are also given certain jobs to fulfill on a daily and weekly basis in order to earn the right to extra privileges. Some of these jobs they do to earn merits then use for purchase of snacks and other items.
  • Responsibility – Other jobs are assigned to them that they must do without payment so they can learn what it means to be a part of the “family”
  • Developing a system where they can earn an honest “dollar” according to their effort and age group to buy snacks or other approved items.
  • The older boys are learning to fix their own bicycles and take care of them.
  • The older girls are taking periods of time to be responsible for taking care of the younger girls: to bathe and comb their hair, have them ready for school, help in child care, cleaning and cooking with the staff, as well as evening devotions.

MOTIVATION AND SELF-DISCIPLINE TRAINING
An equally important need is the motivational system. We work to motivate them to higher goals and accomplishments, developing within them the self-discipline that gives success in life. 1education Our school has a merit system with points that they receive for accomplishing weekly goals. Every Friday they purchase desired items from the Merit Store, such as snacks, a ride on the motorcycle, a movie, a special supper with the directors, a trip to the local amusement park, camping trip, etc.

This is a huge positive motivation for their weekends and helps keep them occupied. With enough positive perks, even for the lower achievers, it is usually adequate to take away these privileges for bad behavior when necessary.

ACE SCHOOL
Our ACE school system helps the child set daily goals to achieve. As the child reaches these goals, he/she earns points with the merit system that can be used to make purchases in the Merit Store. Academically active children can advance as fast as desired, while the slower children can learn at their own pace. This teaches the child self-discipline with positive motivation.
